DYNAMITE SIGNS POPULAR THRILLBENT WEB COMIC, THE DAMNATION OF CHARLIE WORMWOOD, FOR FIRST-TIME IN PERIODICAL FORMAT
Dynamite Comics announced today that the popular web comic from Thrillbent, ‘THE DAMNATION OF CHARLIE WORMWOOD’ will be published for the first time in print this October. Christina Blanch, Chris Carr, Chee, and Troy Peteri will work on the first issue which will feature a cover from Francesco Francavilla (The Black Beetle, Afterlife with Archie) with an incentive cover from Chee.
The story focuses in on your average everyday family man (Charlie Wormwood), an educator who teaches at a prison sees and see an opportunity to earn some additional money to help with the cost of his sick son’s medical bills. These opportunities however involve a risk that he must be willing to take, albeit for the well-being of his family. Described by one reviewer as the literary Breaking Bad, the series has earned praise from many critics.
The creative team behind the digital comic series are thrilled that the series is getting a print run and excited to see the comic in color for the first time. “The whole Wormwood team is so excited about having our book in print,” says Christina Blanch, who co-wrote and co-created the series. “I love digital and print, so there’s nothing better! What’s great about being in both digital and print is that you get a different experience while reading the comic digitally and in print form.”
Co-creators Blanch and Carr originally launched the series via Thrillbent, a digital comic site created by award-winning writer Mark Waid and television writer/producer John Rogers. Their first chapter debuted on April 3, 2013, with weekly chapters posted on Mondays. They are currently up to the twelfth chapter of their second volume.
Nick Barrucci, President and CEO of Dynamite Comics had nothing but praise for the Wormwood creative team. “The Damnation of Charlie Wormwood is hands-down a fantastic series. Christina, Chris, Chee, and Troy could have set up the series with any publisher. We’re honored that they chose Dynamite. This is a great series and I cannot wait for comic stores to make the comics and graphic novel collections available to their fans for years to come.”
