It’s crazy to think that just over two years ago, the first original series from writer James Tynion IV was released by BOOM! Studios. To put out twenty-four issues in just twenty-six months is quite an achievement, and even more so when you consider the quality of the writing and art that we have received with this creative team. Over the last two years The Woods has had many high points. Along with being the publishers second most popular and best-selling title, the series has earned a Harvey nomination and a television adaptation by Universal Cable Productions.
Michael Dialynas still owns these woods! His amazing illustrations have proven to be the perfect complement to Tynion, and together they have constructed a world that includes pieces of familiarity lost in a foreign land. To capture and deliver the kind of emotion you would expect to see in this kind of impassioned thriller is no easy task, and the art team of Dialynas and Gonzales deserve high recognition for what they have accomplished. Simply put, The Woods is beautiful because the art makes it so.
The Woods #24 was probably the best single issue I’ve read since some of its earlier releases and easily the most emotional. Tynion’s imaginative brand of story-telling still shines brightly thanks to his incredible character development. Watching the students evolve and take us to where the story has led us so far has been a joy to watch unfold, and this story truly feels like it was made for television. When you combine the kind of action and theatrical narrative that we see in The Woods, the result is a perfect formula that makes for a one of a kind comic book series!
