The Russia Shift
What would you get if you crossed a cop drama with an odd couple? Image Comics and Antony Johnston call it “The Fuse”, I call it amazing.
“The Fuse” is about a couple of cops. One old, one new, both with something to learn. The catch here though is that these cops work, IN SPACE! The story is set in the future on an outpost of civilization from Earth called, you guessed it, “The Fuse”. It’s a man-made weigh-station for interstellar travelers. Needless to say, there are enough humans living there to constitute a police force. There’s even a mayor!
This first story arch “The Russia Shift” is a master’s class in story writing, and a wonderful showcase for two up and coming talents in the biz. Antony Johnston builds a universe seemingly out of thin air, with characters so compelling that they feel as though they need to exist rather than get to exist. Justin Greenwood’s attention to detail is incredible considering his loose and fast style. This pas de deux of content and style is exactly what the avid comic reader should be fiending for.
Image has recently had a slew of comics hit the market that have gone on to critical fame. That means that sometimes other titles get lost in the shuffle. At $9.99, collecting the first six issues, Image has made sure that this isn’t another one of those titles that slips away from you. Now what are you waiting for, stop reading this and get out there and buy the book already! Happy reading!
