The adventures of this all-girl goonies group continues in issue three and picks up right where the last issue left off. The girls have discovered a cave that immediately led to a chute thrusting them deeper underneath the earth’s surface. Lumberjanes #3 finds our teenage heroines in an underground temple of sorts that is reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie, but there is so much more. Our lumber scouts must find their way through dark passages, solve a challenging Fibonacci obstacle, and dodge oncoming arrows. Throw in arm wrestling statues, pee jokes, and the same quirky humor we have seen in the two previous issues and you have that added element that makes this book so special. Near the end we find out the true meaning of “beware the kitten holy” and that Jen really does care.
The creative team behind “Lumberjanes” should be commended for the work that they are putting out here. The writing is smart, funny, and charming while Brooke Allen’s art remains distinctively vibrant. This is by far one of the best all-ages comics out right now with this particular issue being the best yet. It should come as no surprise that the series was recently announced as an ongoing, this book just keeps getting better and better!
