Another guest at Alamo City Comic Con last week was Maria Ramos, known better as cosplay model Mariedoll. Marie and I had corresponded a week before the event to arrange an interview. I quickly found out just how popular she is, as it was very difficult to find a good time to catch her with all the attention she was getting from the fans. Don’t get me wrong, Marie is a very approachable and kind person. Her sweet demeanor and smile are exactly the reasons why her fans love her so much. I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t take time away from that.
As Friday quickly passed, I chatted with her briefly and confirmed that we would not even attempt an interview on Saturday for obvious reasons. The crowds were insane on day two as expected, as was the cosplay tables with thousands of fans taking pictures, purchasing prints, and chatting with the girls. Right in the middle of this was Mariedoll. Marie who resides from Houston, Texas first ventured into the world of cosplay back in 2006 and has been invited to countless conventions since then, including New York Comic Con, Comicpalooza, and the mother of all cons, San Diego Comic Con.
Her popularity is evident where ever she travels. Whether she’s cosplaying as Catwoman, Harley Quinn, or fan favorite Velma from Scooby Doo, her outfits and her disposition demand so much attention, it is no wonder why she remains in such demand. Many have taken notice which has resulted in Marie being featured in several magazines including Maxim. She also was a featured host on Barrio Beats, a local Houston television show that aired music videos.
When I spoke with Marie she made it clear that she loves and thoroughly enjoys what she does but at the same time, she works hard and has a dedication to what she does. Blood, sweat and tears she called it, and that is exactly what she puts in to her costume designing and modeling. If you missed Marie at Alamo City Comic Con, you can catch her at the South Texas Collectors Expo in Laredo, TX in January and we all look forward to seeing her again next year at ACCC.
