With the breaking news first reported by Variety today regarding the Warner Bros announcement that they are pushing back the upcoming Superman-Batman film originally scheduled for release in 2015, the comic book universe is buzzing. What does it all mean? Let’s speculate.
1. Batfleck Gate – There have been rumors circulating that Ben Affleck is injured, but these reports are unconfirmed. The one thing that is well known is that Ben is a busy man. Affleck already had a directing commitment that was scheduled to start after production of Superman-Batman ended. Could Warner Bros be working around his schedule? Probably not, but not completely out of the realm of possibility.
2. Superman-Batman/Justice League shooting back to back – This may have everything to do with the reports that the Justice League movie would begin shooting immediately after Superman-Batman. Multiple reports hinted that this was being talked about, much like what Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Ring films.
3. Warner Bros wants to get it right – With several important roles yet to be cast, Warner Bros perhaps may be working around the schedules of others, including Joaquin Phoenix. Variety has also reported that Phoenix is being looked at to fill one of the villain roles. The Bryan Cranston rumors also will not go away, and the actor when asked has not given a clear answer.
4. Two Comic Book universes will collide – Another thing that is certain is that Marvel has already announced a yet to be named movie for May 6, 2016. May is a very common and very popular date for past Marvel films, and with DC pushing the release date to that exact same date, it sets up what should be an epic showdown between Disney/Marvel and Warner Bros/DC.
Regardless of what is true or not, we all look forward to future announcements, and especially to May of 2016.
