Kara’s Best of the Bad-Ass Games of 2014!
Best Action/Adventure: Bayonetta 2 – Bayonetta 2 truly brought back everything that made the first one awesome & added more awesome. The character of Bayonetta along with her quick wit and well I’ll just say it, Slammin Body, really made this title enjoyable and easy on the eyes.
Best Survival Horror: The Evil Within – As a huge fan of survival horror games, I truly found not only the graphics of this game wonderful, but the fact that it truly left me feeling helpless at times. With stamina and traps adding additional hazards along your journey it kept me on my toes and afraid of the dark.
Best Role Playing: Dragon Age: Inquisition – I feel like Inquisition really brought the Dragon Age franchise to another level. I found the characters interesting and as a gamer who doesn’t play a lot of role-playing games the interface made it easy to understand and adapt to a style I am not very familiar with. Did I mention the in-game world is gorgeous?!
Best Family Game: Mario Kart 8 – I mean it’s Mario Kart and what’s better than that? Uh, being TOADETT. The new maps of this game are fantastic and it still keeps the classic feeling and will surely ignite your competitive spirit.
Best Graphics: Destiny – Holy Space Batman…err-uh Warlock? The amount of detail that was put into this game truly makes it feel more like you are playing a move than a video game. I think the thing that impressed me the most with this games graphics were the character designs, the felt unique and original but still gave me that “Bungie” feel. If you haven’t played this game, do it NOW!
Best Character: Handsome Jack (Borderlands The Pre-Sequel) – I will be the first to admit that I tend to fall for the bad guy and The Pre-Sequel was no different. Handsome Jack is not only hilarious and extremely witty, but this time we get to see a different more “heroic” side of Jack. I just love him.
Best Story: Borderlands The Pre-Sequel – I can never get enough knowledge when it comes to the world Borderlands takes place in. This was the game my phone countdown was set to, and I couldn’t have been happier with this new story. It is a pre-sequel so it is helpful to have knowledge of at least the game that comes before this one, but even for new vault hunters to the franchise this game will keep you laughing and entertained.
Best Xbox Exclusive: Sunset Overdrive – Can you say FUN?!! Sunset Overdrive is in my opinion the best game to come out for the Xbox One so far. It was such a great time filled with nonstop fun and expositions. If you have Xbox One and haven’t played this game get on it!
Best PlayStation: The Last of Us Remastered – Beautifully Beautifully done. I loved this game when it first came out but the Remastered version for PS4 added just the right amount of new to make this game even more enjoyable than the first time.
Best 3DS Title: Super Smash Bros 3DS – Star Fox, Link, Pikachu, and Sexy Zelda! Super Smash Bros is back and just as fun and amazing as I remember it. Though it’s been a few years since I’ve played a Smash Bros game, it’s still full of super moves that make your adrenalin pump and I still suck.
Best Mulitplayer: Destiny – I am not an online or multiplayer gamer, with that being said Destiny is probably the first title that I have actually ever found myself enjoying. With several different options for competitive play Destiny makes a non-multiplayer gamer feel right at home.
Best Collection: Halo Master Chief Collection – Can I get a what what?!! I love me some Master Chief and I love Halo, both thee above made me very excited to have one of my first next-gen console titles be one that I was already familiar with. The Xbox Ones graphics and controller made an almost seamless transition.
Best DLC: Bishock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 2 – Best conclusion to a game franchise ever!!! Bioshock is one of the best game series to bless our poor pathetic excuse for an existence (I kid) so I was beyond depressed when I found out that the franchise was coming to an end with this DLC, but let me just tell you that Ken Levine and the team at Irrational Games truly put the bow on top of a beautiful thing with this final edition to the series. If you love Bioshock and haven’t played this to see how the series wrapped up you are seriously doing yourself an extreme disfavor.
Best Point & Click: Five Nights at Freddy’s – Scary as Hell! On the surface a game where you work as night security for a Chuck E Cheese type establishment seems so dumb, but I was more than pleasantly surprised at how horrifying this game is. The original game only has 5 levels but it takes way less than that for you to have nightmares of demented animatronic animals coming to murder you.
Kara’s Pic for Best Game of the year 2014: BORDERLANDS – THE PRE SEQUEL – I know SHOCKER. It’s not mystery to anyone that I love the Borderlands franchise as much as I love Doughnuts, but guys come on. This game had everything from the cell-shading graphics I already love to new characters for me to fall in love with. This game gave you origination stories of many characters you are already familiar with and takes us to Pandoras Moon of Elpis and Hyperion’s station Helios. If you love the franchise and what to know just where Handsome Jack and many of our other characters came from I more than recommend this badass game.
